Hunter Brown, a senior at The University of Texas at Tyler University Academy-Palestine campus, placed third in the chemistry competition at this year’s state University Interscholastic League Academics meet. He advanced to state by placing first overall in the UIL science contest at regionals.

“We are very proud of Hunter. He represented the University Academy extremely well,” said Dr. Jo Ann Simmons, UA superintendent.

The UIL academic meet tests students, both individually and in teams, on their knowledge and skills over many content areas including speech and debate, writing, math and literary knowledge.

“Hunter attributes a lot of the success he had on the chemistry test to the dual credit chemistry course he took through UT Tyler,” said Larry Richmond, UA-Palestine UIL coach. “He was really enthusiastic about this course, often leading review sessions for his classmates before major exams.”

Brown will attend UT Tyler this fall and major in mathematics.
