Jaime W. Burke-Hicks, a student council adviser at The University of Texas at Tyler University Academy Longview campus, has been named the Texas Association of Student Councils’ Middle-Level Adviser of the Year. With this honor, she also is the 2022-23 nominee for the Warren Shull Middle School National Adviser of the Year.

“I want to congratulate Mrs. Hicks on being recognized by TASC. We are very proud of her and her contributions to the district,” said Dr. Jo Ann Simmons, UA superintendent.

Burke-Hicks has guided her council to numerous Outstanding Student Council and Sweepstakes Awards. Her council has served in various officer roles, including TASC district president. She currently serves as TASC District 419 coordinator, and she also has been a TASC Board of Directors member.

“Mrs. Hicks’ belief in the value of a strong, positive, service organization, such as Student Council, drives her to work diligently to help our students to be successful,” said Rachel Hawkins, campus director. “She truly understands our theme for this year of ‘Lead with Heart.’”

Burke-Hicks joined UA in 2015. She teaches art, social studies and physical education.

TASC is the largest student council organization in the United States. Burke-Hicks represents those council advisers and students across the state who give their time and knowledge to ensure student success, improve their communities, and make their schools a place where students and staff want to be.
