UT Tyler Charter School Students Recognized at Regional Innovation Competition

Students from The University of Texas at Tyler University Academy-Tyler placed first and second at the fifth annual East Texas High School Idea Challenge. Hosted by the UT Tyler ETX Launchpad, the competition aims to foster creativity and entrepreneurship among high school students and inspire the next generation of inventors and innovators.

Winners Rebekah Daniel and Bliss Joseph each received a UT Tyler scholarship in the amount of $5,000 for their integrated healthcare app, Apollo Care. Team members Tristan O'Sullivan, Giovanni Pinedo and Hayden Burns each received a UT Tyler scholarship in the amount of $2,500 for their multi-use, self-charging utility tool called EcoStep.

“We are thrilled to see such impressive ideas and innovative solutions coming from our local high school students,” said Brandon Reynolds, UT Tyler ETEC director of competitions and mentoring. “The East Texas High School Idea Challenge is a testament to the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of our East Texas region, and we are proud to support these young minds as they strive to make a difference here and beyond.”

The Idea Challenge is open to all East Texas high schools. Students are invited to submit their ideas, either individually or by teams, and compete for the top prizes, which are intended to support the education and career paths of promising young innovators. The UT Tyler ETX Launchpad works to improve economic development through entrepreneurship and innovation programming.
