Prashanta Kumar Acharjee of Tyler, a graduate civil engineering major at The University of Texas at Tyler, was recognized at the 2023 Texas District of Institute of Transportation Engineers Annual Meeting. An international student from Bangladesh, Acharjee received the TexITE Best Paper Award with a $1,000 cash prize for his research paper.

“Pavement Roughness Prediction Model for Texas with Artificial Neural Network (ANN)” discusses a developed International Roughness Index prediction model to determine surface pavement conditions using the state’s climate and traffic data. Acharjee is now nominated for the national ITE Daniel Fambro Student Paper Award.

His faculty adviser is Dr. Mena Souliman, UT Tyler associate professor of civil engineering.

“Prashanta’s exceptional research paper and well-deserved recognition showcases not only his dedication to academic excellence, but also his passion for driving innovation in the field of transportation,” said Souliman. “With his talent and commitment, I am confident that Prashanta will continue to make significant contributions to this important industry.”

Acharjee will graduate this summer with a UT Tyler Master of Science in Civil Engineering. He plans to continue his education and work in transportation engineering.
