The University of Texas at Tyler announced that the 2023 BMW of Tyler Patriot Golf Classic raised $123,150 to benefit the university’s scholarship program.

“I am thankful to all the volunteers and players who make this a successful event each and every year,” said UT Tyler President Kirk A. Calhoun, MD, FACP. “We also owe a huge debt of gratitude to our sponsors. Their support of our students is immensely appreciated, and we cannot thank them enough.”

Since 1986, the Patriot Golf Classic has been one of the university’s largest annual fundraisers benefiting UT Tyler student scholarships. Proceeds fund an endowment that now totals more than $2 million.

“This year’s tournament was a tremendous success as business leaders from around East Texas came together to bring awareness to UT Tyler, while also providing much needed scholarship dollars for deserving students,” said Dr. Archie Tucker II, UT Tyler senior vice president for advancement.

The Patriot Golf Classic committee, led this year by chairman Jeff Austin III and vice chair Jay Ward, organizes the golf tournament.

With a mission to improve educational and health care outcomes for East Texas and beyond, UT Tyler offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs to 10,000 students. UT Tyler recently merged with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Tyler (now known as UT Tyler Health Science Center). Through its alignment with UT Tyler Health Science Center (HSC) and UT Health East Texas, UT Tyler has unified these entities to serve Texas with quality education, cutting-edge research and excellent patient care. Classified by Carnegie as a doctoral research institution and by U.S. News & World Report as a national university, UT Tyler has campuses in Tyler, Longview, Palestine and Houston.
