The University of Texas at Tyler announced the names of high school seniors who are 2023 UT Tyler Honors Scholars. Each student has been awarded a $40,000 scholarship and accepted into the UT Tyler Honors College.
“It is such a great honor to bring new students to our university,” said UT Tyler President Kirk A. Calhoun. “We get a front row seat as they go on to do great things for our communities, our state and our country.”
Students were recognized during surprise visits to their high school campuses as part of the university’s Admissions Honors Scholars Road Show. These 12 were selected out of 800 applicants who submitted essays and were interviewed as part of the selection process.
Recipients listed by high school are:
All Saints Episcopal School – Elisabeth Vahovius.
Bishop T.K. Gorman High School – Zoey Broaddus.
Brook Hill School – Anna Arseienko.
Martins Mill High School – Brayden Edwards.
Tyler Legacy High School – Asa Clark, Blanca Kellermann Jimenez and Namarie Perez.
UT Tyler University Academy-Longview – Madalyne Kirby.
UT Tyler University Academy-Palestine – Jad Absy and Samuel Carter.
Van High School – Jace Douglas.
Whitehouse High School – Ibrahim Burghul.
