The University of Texas at Tyler Center for Social Science Research announced today that the University will host two archeological conferences focusing on the culture of the Caddo Feb. 28 and 29.

The 62nd Caddo Conference and the 27th East Texas Archeological Conference will celebrate the history of the Caddo people, who are an important part of the East Texas history.

The conference will be 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the UT Tyler University Center. The registration fee is $20.

“The conferences bring together various scholars and the Caddo people for a dialog about their history,” said Dr. Thomas Guderjan, Center for Social Sciences Research director. “Scholars will share their research and historical interpretation of the Caddo, and the community can learn more about their amazing culture and how it shaped East Texas.”

The Caddo lived in the piney woods of what is now East Texas.

Dr. George Sabo III, Arkansas Archeological Survey director, will be the keynote speaker. His topic will be The Archeology of Caddo Storytelling, which will explore the links between Caddo narrative traditions and artistic representation.

Caddo art and dances will also be featured.
