The University of Texas at Tyler has announced a collaboration with The Dallas Morning News to bring readers summaries of Texas voters’ preferences leading up to the 2020 presidential election.

“The University of Texas at Tyler is pleased to partner with The Dallas Morning News, a nationally-recognized source of journalism excellence, to provide relevant 2020 election polling data to the people of Texas,'' said Dr. Michael Tidwell, UT Tyler president. "The faculty and students who run the UT Tyler Center for Opinion Research continue to amaze with the accuracy and professionalism of their polling operation. We’re glad their research has an outstanding platform in The Dallas Morning News.”

The UT Tyler Center for Opinion Research is conducting five surveys examining the opinions of registered Texas voters prior to the November election. The results of the first survey were published Feb. 2 in the Dallas Morning News.

“At a time of growth and change in our state, we're pleased to partner with UT Tyler to survey our fellow Texans on the issues that matter most to them,” said Mike Wilson, editor of The Dallas Morning News. “UT Tyler's polling expertise will give us important insights into Texans' attitudes. We look forward to sharing those insights with our readers.”

The UT Tyler Center for Opinion Research is a full-scale polling center using computer-assisted telephone interviewing software to conduct surveys that examine voter tendencies toward statewide politics. The center is set up as a lab where undergraduate and graduate students work shifts making phone calls as part of their coursework.

Six surveys have been conducted since the center opened in 2018, when it gauged voter opinion on the Texas senate race between Ted Cruz and Beto O’Rourke.

A member of the prestigious UT System, The University of Texas at Tyler focuses on student success and innovative research in the more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered to nearly 10,000 students. Classified by Carnegie as a doctoral research institution and by U.S. News and World Report as a national university, UT Tyler has campuses in Tyler, Longview, Palestine and Houston.
