The University of Texas at Tyler announced this week a partnership with Martin Resource Management Corporation to improve the region’s college completion rate and fortify the East Texas workforce.

As a part of the partnership, Martin Resource Management has made an investment in UT Tyler for student and faculty success projects at the Soules College of Business to promote the future East Texas workforce.

Currently, less than 50 percent of high school students in East Texas pursue higher education.

"The goal of this partnership is to further the education of all our students in East Texas,” said Dr. Michael Tidwell, UT Tyler president. “In a time where careers are becoming more complex and the competition for good jobs is becoming more intense and more international, high school students of East Texas should know that UT Tyler and Martin Resource Management are dedicated to their success.”

“The founders of Martin Resource Management have always believed investing in our community,” Bob Bondurant, Martin Resource Management executive vice president and chief financial officer, said. “From a business perspective, partnering with leaders in our region creates bonds, strengthens attachments and brings people together. And teaming up with a partner like UT Tyler, which develops talented people within East Texas, immeasurably benefits our organization by providing us an educated workforce to help sustain our future.”

To commemorate the partnership, UT Tyler named a classroom in the Soules College of Business for the industry leader.

“It is a great honor to thank and celebrate an East Texas family business for investing in their hometown business school. The Soules College of Business is absolutely thrilled to dedicate the Martin Resource Management classroom,” said Dr. Bob Beatty, Soules College of Business dean.

For nearly 70 years, Martin Resource Management has been adding value to the energy industry. Growing from a small family business with one man and one truck, Martin Resource Management is now nationally renowned for delivering over a quarter of a billion gallons of diesel fuel and lubricants yearly. The business has grown to over 600 trucks and 1,300 trailers nationwide.

Martin Resource Management Corporation through its various subsidiaries is an independent provider of marketing and distribution of fuel oil, asphalt, sulfuric acid, diesel fuel and high-quality naphthenic lubricants. MRMC markets over 250 million gallons of diesel fuel and lubricants per year along the Gulf Coast and approximately 1.5 million barrels of naphthenic lubricants and base oils per year throughout the United States.

A member of the prestigious UT System, The University of Texas at Tyler focuses on student success and innovative research in the more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programs offered to nearly 10,000 students. Classified by Carnegie as a doctoral research institution and by U.S. News and World Report as a national university, UT Tyler has campuses in Tyler, Longview, Palestine and Houston.
