The University of Texas at Tyler Office of Career Services, in collaboration with UT System, has launched UT Talent Exchange to explore a new way of connecting students and alumni to careers, Dr. Howard Patterson, vice president for student affairs, announced.

UT Talent Exchange is a database designed to match small to mid-sized companies that have jobs and internship opportunities with students and alumni from universities across the UT System. The system uses matching algorithms to connect candidates to employers based not only on job requirements but also on individual candidate skills and interests as they relate to the job descriptions.

"This system increases students' online visibility with employers, and it allows them to find their 'best-fit' opportunities with employers that they may not have otherwise discovered," said Marilyn Albert, director of career services at The University of Texas at Tyler.

Candidates will fill out a questionnaire based on their skills, interests and ideal job situation. Employers will complete the same type questionnaire for each job they post. The system then matches job specifications with candidates.

The benefit of this system is that it allows people to find employment opportunities that are more closely related to how they see themselves in their chosen career field, not just a job. Employers find candidates based on skills, interests and job fit as they relate to specific questionnaires, not generic job descriptions.

"We encourage all students and alumni to take advantage of this unique system. More student and alumni participation will increase employer participation," Albert said.
