The University of Texas at Tyler has been gifted $1.4 million by JDA Software Group, Inc. to enhance management/marketing curriculum, Dr. James Lumpkin, College of Business and Technology dean, announced.
This significant in-kind donation allows JDA floor planning and space planning software to be introduced in several marketing and management classes in the College of Business and Technology. Implementation will begin this summer.
"Understanding the importance of the concept of space/store/shelf planning is essential in pursuing corporate careers in the Consumer Packaged Goods industry and with large retailers," said Krist Swimberghe, management and marketing department chair. "The JDA software is a tool used by manufacturers and retailers that allows them to use consumer insights and allocate their limited plant/store/shelf space in the most efficient way."
UT Tyler students who pursue a bachelor of business administration in any of the business disciplines will uniquely position themselves in the marketplace, and this advantage allows them to pursue highly rewarding corporate careers within the CPG industry.
"A basic working knowledge of the JDA floor planning and space planning tools is a highly sought-after skill in the CPG industry and with large retailers. The JDA partnership complements other value-added curriculum initiatives in the college, such as the SAP student acknowledgment award and Category Analyst Certification preparation," he added.
