The University of Texas at Tyler will hold a cornerstone ceremony for the upcoming Alumni House, Wendell Jeffreys, vice president for advancement, announced.
The ceremony will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22 near the construction site at the university's main entrance. Rain location will be the UT Tyler Ornelas Activity Center, 3402 Old Omen Road.
"The placing of the cornerstone in the new Alumni House is a wonderful tradition that celebrates the construction of this facility that is to become the unique gateway to the Tyler campus. We're also honoring both our wonderful donors and alumni who have contributed in making this possible," Jeffreys said.
At almost 13,000 square feet, the two-story structure will serve UT Tyler alumni, the university and Tyler community. The UT Tyler Alumni House also will accommodate the alumni relations and university advancement offices on the second floor.
Located behind the Alumni House, the Patriot Plaza will feature a garden area and custom bricks submitted by UT Tyler alumni and friends.
The university broke ground last April. A grand opening ceremony for the $3.8 million facility will be announced.
