The University of Texas at Tyler College of Nursing and Health Sciences, in conjunction with Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals, will present the second Interprofessional Evidence-Based Practice Conference, Dr. Yong Tai Wang, college dean, announced.
The public event will be 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18 at the Green Acres CrossWalk Conference Center in Tyler. Keynote speakers are Dr. Lane Brunner, UT Tyler Sam A. Lindsey Professor and founding dean of the Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy; as well as UT Health Northeast Isadore Roosth Distinguished Professor and senior vice president for population health, Dr. David Lakey, who also serves as the UT System associate vice chancellor for population health.
“We are very fortunate to have these two nationally recognized health leaders, educators and promoters of EBP and community health, and we are looking forward to an exciting conference with over 900 nursing and pharmacy students, educators and health care professionals,” said Lindsey Heaton, UT Tyler graduate nursing recruiter, who serves as event co-coordinator. “The conference will catch everyone up with the latest evidence on interprofessional practice and team learning along with how clinicians work together to provide seamless transitions of care to improve patient outcomes.”

Brunner began his academic career at UT Austin in the College of Pharmacy. His scholarly work includes federally funded bench research, clinical trials as well as application and educational methodologies. He has become a pioneering leader in the use of team-based learning (TBL) in pharmacy academia.
Lakey served as commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services from 2007-2015. In that role, he led a staff of 12,000 and had an annual budget of $3.3 million. He also oversaw programs such as disease prevention, disaster preparedness and family and community health services.
Prior to being commissioner, Lakey served as an associate professor of medicine for eight years at UT Health Northeast.
