Nathan Wright of San Angelo, a senior mass communication major at The University of Texas at Tyler, has been named the next Patriot Talon editor in chief.

The UT Tyler Student Media Advisory Board supported Wright as the best candidate for the 2015-16 academic year. He follows Nizia Alam of Tyler.

“I’m excited to see Nathan lead the Patriot Talon staff. His journalism experience combined with his work ethic will take the Patriot Talon to the next level this coming year,” said Bonnie Davis, Patriot Talon business coordinator.

With nearly 20 years of journalism experience, Wright has served as the Talon sports editor since August 2014. The Texas Intercollegiate Press Association recently named him a 2015 Frank W. Buckley Scholar.

Wright previously worked as a writer, assistant sports editor and sports editor for the San Angelo Standard-Times, where he earned recognition from The Associated Press Sports Editors and received several APSE awards. He also was the sports editor for Tyler Junior College’s Apache Pow Wow newspaper for a semester, during at which time the Texas Community College Journalism Association recognized his work.

In addition, Wright has won TIPA’s on-site print sports writing contest twice in succession.

The award-winning Patriot Talon, the student-run media outlet at UT Tyler, is designed to inform, entertain, educate and heighten awareness of students, faculty, staff and administrators at the university. The Talon may be found online at patriottalon.com.
