The University of Texas at Tyler graduate student Colby Craddock of Tyler has received a prestigious scholarship from the Alzheimer’s Association, Dr. Yong Tai Wang, College of Nursing and Health Sciences dean, announced.
Craddock was awarded a 2015 Myrna D. Schlegel Scholarship in the amount of $5,000. Only four $5,000 scholarships are awarded to the best-qualified student scholars in North and East Texas each year.
“My research is in the field of kinesiology, understanding the connections between physical, mental and nutritional interventions and their enhancement of cognitive function,” said Craddock, who previously graduated from UT Tyler with a bachelor of science in kinesiology. “In the future, I aim to teach this expanding knowledge to other students and scientists in the study of human movement as a professor.”
Myrna and Robert Schlegel established this generous endowment in 1998 through the association to recognize and support undergraduate and graduate students seeking degrees in research and/or treating and caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
Craddock will graduate with a master of science degree in December 2016. He hopes to pursue doctoral studies in his research area.
He currently is president of the UT Tyler Health and Kinesiology Club. Craddock also works as a graduate research assistant with Dr. Benjamin Tseng, UT Tyler assistant professor and director of the university’s Laboratory of Brain Aging and Neuromotor Behavior.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
