The University of Texas at Tyler held fall 2014 commencement ceremonies Dec. 12 and 13, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

Eight hundred ninety nine degree candidates were recognized in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center.

The commencement schedule was:

  • College of Nursing and Health Sciences – 3 p.m. Dec. 12
  • College of Arts and Sciences – 6 p.m. Dec. 12
  • College of Business and Technology – 10 a.m. Dec. 13
  • Colleges of Education and Psychology and Engineering – 1 p.m. Dec. 13

State Rep. Matt Schaefer served as the commencement speaker for all four ceremonies.

President Mabry gave remarks. Dr. Ross Sherman, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, presented and certified doctoral degree candidates.

Presentation and certification of master’s and baccalaureate degree candidates were made by the deans of each of the university’s colleges: Dr. Martin Slann, Arts and Sciences; Dr. James Lumpkin, Business and Technology; Dr. Wesley Hickey, Education and Psychology; Dr. James Nelson, Engineering; and Dr. Yong Tai Wang, Nursing and Health Sciences.

Texas Bank and Trust-Tyler president Jerry Woolverton and Brittany Childs, UT Tyler director of alumni relations, gave alumni association presentations.

More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 8,000 high-ability students.
