The U.S. News and World Report America’s Best Colleges survey has again recognized The University of Texas at Tyler
as one of the leading public universities in the state, President Rodney H. Mabry
announced.
In the 2015 results, UT Tyler is the top public East Texas institution listed, and the university was listed among the top 25 of all public universities recognized in the West region, which includes institutions in Texas, California and 13 other states. The West region is the largest region the publication uses to categorize institutions. Regional universities are ranked against their peer group in one of four regions – North, South, Midwest and West, according to the publication.
“Our faculty and staff at UT Tyler have a commitment to innovation that is second-to-none,” President Mabry said. “We strive for excellence in all areas, from our academic offerings to our student life to the quality of our facilities. Rankings such as this show that our dedication is being recognized on the national stage.”
The survey rankings are based on such criteria as graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.
Retention among UT Tyler freshmen improved from the 2014 evaluation, as did UT Tyler’s acceptance rate and alumni giving. Once again, UT Tyler also held the best student-to-faculty ratio among the Texas public universities listed.
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler features excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 7,500 high-ability students. UT Tyler offers courses at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine as well as a location in Houston.
