Top comedian Larry the Cable Guy will open the 2014-15 season at The University of
Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew,
Cowan Center executive director, announced.
A special event for the Braithwaite Intimate Gatherings Series, the comedian will
take the stage at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. This performance contains
adult language.
Tickets are $77, $72, $67, $57 and $37 and can be purchased at the UT Tyler Cowan
Center box office by calling 903.566.7424 or online at www.cowancenter.org. Box office hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“We have been looking at Larry the Cable Guy for years hoping we could get him for
a season opener sometime. It’s exciting to finally have him here for two performances
with our members’ party in between. Don’t forget that his stand-up comedy isn’t for
children and not even for some adults. You’ll laugh so hard it will be one of your
favorite memories from the Cowan Center,” said Thomae-Morphew.
Larry the Cable Guy is a multiplatinum recording artist, Grammy nominee, Billboard
award winner and on one of the top comedians in the country. Known for his signature
catchphrase, ‘Git-R-Done,’ Larry reached stardom as part of the Blue Collar Comedy
Tour, which included Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall and grossed more than $15 million.
His first comedy album, “Lord, I Apologize,” has sold more than 500,000 copies. The CD was number one on the Billboard Comedy Charts for 15 consecutive weeks. Larry’s DVD special, “Git-R-Done,” has sold more than 1 million copies and the book by the same name debuted at number 26 on the New York Times bestseller list.
He was named to the Forbes Celebrity 100 list in 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2012. The list names the hottest and most successful people in the entertainment industry.
Larry’s first feature film was “Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector.” He reunited with Foxworthy and Engvall for Them Idiots Whirled Tour, which was filmed as a special for the Country Music Television channel and aired in 2012. Larry is the voice of Mater in the Golden Globe-winning animated movies “Cars” and “Cars 2.” Both movies opened at number one at the box office and combined have grossed more than $1 billion worldwide.
He has also starred in “Tooth Fairy,” “Witless Protection” and “Delta Farce.”
