Suddenlink has made a generous contribution to The University of Texas at Tyler that will benefit the university and broaden Suddenlink’s exposure throughout the East Texas community, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

The gift will provide cutting-edge enhancements to the UT Tyler Ballpark. In honor of this generosity, the softball field will be named Suddenlink Field.

“Suddenlink’s investment will help make Suddenlink Field at UT Tyler Ballpark the finest stadium for fast-pitch softball in Texas, and possibly, in America, based on comments from the top-10 ranked teams from Oregon and Virginia that have competed at UT Tyler this year,” said President Mabry.

These enhancements will add to UT Tyler’s fan base and game attendance. They will also help attract more quality student-athletes, who consistently express their appreciation for UT Tyler’s modern, state-of-the-art athletic facilities, according to President Mabry.

“Suddenlink has exhibited true foresight to recognize this investment opportunity at UT Tyler. We want to highlight our continuing, valuable partnership with Suddenlink. Their investment will be used to upgrade our scoreboard, adding video and advertising capability, and equally, to add quality seating for 400 fans,” he added.

UT Tyler will install a NewTek-Tricaster studio, which will allow their athletics program to have one of the highest-quality online broadcasts and in-game video production in all of NCAA Division III athletics. The broadcasts that are produced will be available “on-demand” to all Suddenlink subscribers who have the video-on-demand service.

“Once again, Suddenlink has helped us do something in a truly first-rate, cutting-edge way—the same way they run their cable business. All of East Texas is richer for their foresight and this region will benefit economically. In turn, this win-win investment will surely generate an excellent return for the owners of Suddenlink by continuing to expand and benefit their customer base,” President Mabry said.

Suddenlink Field at UT Tyler Ballpark will be the host site for the 2014 NCAA Division III Softball World Series May 22 – 27. The eight best Division III softball teams in the nation will compete for the championship.

A longtime friend of the university, Suddenlink has played a significant role in the success of the UT Tyler Suddenlink Million Dollar Hole-in-One. This event has raised more than $1 million in scholarship funds for deserving students.

Suddenlink was established in February 2003 and serves nearly 1.4 million customers in Texas, West Virginia, Louisiana, Arkansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Arizona and elsewhere. They are committed to bringing customers outstanding service such as the fastest Internet, most advanced TV services and unlimited home phone.

One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 7,500 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine as well as a location in Houston.
