Clara Goebel of Plano, a sophomore at The University of Texas at Tyler, has been elected vice chair of the UT System Student Advisory Council, Dr. Howard Patterson, UT Tyler vice president for student affairs, announced.
Goebel was elected by UTSSAC members in Austin. As vice chair, she represents the more than 215,000 students in the UT System. Her term will conclude next spring.
“As one of the UT Tyler Student Government Association advisers, I am excited for Clara to represent UT Tyler in this role,” said Adrian Lodge, UT Tyler student development specialist who oversees new student programs. “She is a very dedicated student and SGA officer here on campus, and I look forward to seeing her success with the UTSSAC.”
Established in 1989, the UTSSAC consists of two student representatives from each UT System component institution that enrolls students. The council meets three times annually and provides input to the UT System Board of Regents working through and with the chancellor and UT System administration on issues of student concern.
Goebel currently is the UT Tyler SGA parliamentarian and serves as a supplemental instruction student intern. She received the 2013 UT Tyler SGA Senator of the Year Award and was on the President’s Honor Roll. Goebel also plans to begin an environmental club at UT Tyler this fall.
She will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in history with a minor in biochemistry in May 2016 and hopes to become a physician or surgeon.
One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler features excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 7,500 high-ability students. UT Tyler offers courses at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine as well as a location in Houston.
