The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Health and Kinesiology faculty are recruiting male and female neuropathy patients for an exercise research study.
Participants must be 50 years or older and have been diagnosed with neuropathy in their feet/legs or fingers/hands.
Additional orientation sessions are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21 in the UT Tyler Herrington Patriot Center. Those interested must attend one of the two sessions to be included in the study. Necessary forms will be made available at each meeting.
UT Tyler assistant professor of exercise physiology Dr. Arturio Arce-Esquivel and Dr. Joyce Ballard, well-known exercise physiologist and UT Tyler professor emerita, will lead the study, which involves participation in a Tai Chi exercise class designed specifically for neuropathy patients.
The class will meet for 12 weeks, three times a week for one hour per session and is expected to start sometime in April 2015, Ballard said.
