The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Art and Art History will present a lecture featuring Texas artist Billy Hassell, Dr. Martin Slann, College of Arts and Sciences dean, announced.
The public event will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28 in the UT Tyler Fine Arts Complex, room 112.
A Dallas native, Hassell will speak about his artwork, his current exhibition at the Tyler Museum of Art and how he became a professional artist.
His paintings and prints in the exhibition titled, “Illuminating Nature: Recent Paintings and Works on Paper by Billy Hassell,” will continue through Sunday, March 23 at the museum.
Owner of Billy Hassell Studio, he is an adjunct professor of art at Texas Christian University. There, Hassell teaches advanced drawing within the TCU Department of Art and Art History. He has been showing his artwork since the 1980s in galleries nationwide. His bold colors, patterns and graphically illustrative style are inspired by nature.
Hassell holds a bachelor of fine arts in printmaking from the University of Notre Dame and a master of fine arts in studio art from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
