The University of Texas at Tyler celebrated another significant milestone in its history with a preliminary enrollment of 7,193 for spring 2014, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

This is the first time UT Tyler has surpassed the 7,000 mark during a spring semester. Last spring, the total headcount was 6,581.

“We are excited to see such strong growth for the spring semester. We are among the fastest growing universities in Texas, and it speaks to the quality of our institution that our numbers continue to rise. I am proud of our dedicated faculty and staff, who strive to make UT Tyler a place where students can feel comfortable and be successful,” President Mabry said.

The increase in the spring enrollment can be attributed to the retention of enrolled students and the recruitment of new students.

UT Tyler also began implementing a new marketing strategy that included a series of new commercials intended to increase awareness of UT Tyler’s quality programs and graduates.

“We are very excited to see this growth in our enrollment, especially in a time of enrollment stagnancy or decline at higher education institutions across the nation,” said Sarah Bowdin, interim assistant vice president for enrollment management. “Our growth is a result of wonderful leadership, faculty and staff working together as a team to promote enrollment and retain students.”

One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler features excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of more than 7,500 high-ability students. UT Tyler offers courses at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine as well as a location in Houston.
