Jennifer Skinner has been named “South Central Adviser of the Year” by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities, Ona Tolliver, assistant vice president for student affairs and dean of students at The University of Texas at Tyler, announced.
Serving UT Tyler since December 2007, Skinner is the UT Tyler student development specialist who oversees campus activities as well as the UT Tyler Campus Activities Board adviser.
APCA, a national campus events and educational training organization, annually recognizes outstanding individuals who go above and beyond in their role as student organization advisers. Students and colleagues nominate recipients.
A UT Tyler alumna, Skinner is among the five 2013 regional recipients who are finalists for APCA’s National Adviser of the Year. The South Central Region includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
“Jennifer’s enthusiastic personality, passion for student activities and commitment to make a difference on her campus are just a few reasons why she is the most deserving recipient of the 2013 ‘South Central Adviser of the Year’ Award,” said Michael Stephenson, APCA director of marketing. “The APCA relies on advisers like Jennifer to continue in our mission to promote campus engagement through quality educational experiences, affordable entertainment and community service initiatives.”
As the UT Tyler CAB adviser, Skinner provides leadership and training to organization officers and general membership and assists with the coordination and planning of all CAB events.
Prior to serving the UT Tyler Department of Student Life and Leadership as a student development specialist, Skinner previously was the assistant to the UT Tyler alumni director. She has also served as a UT Tyler adjunct faculty member within the Department of Communication since 2011.
Before serving UT Tyler, she served Northwood University as director of student activities.
Skinner holds a bachelor of science in journalism and a master of arts in communications, both from UT Tyler.
Memberships include APCA, National Association of Campus Activities and Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators.
Skinner also is chair of the UT Tyler University Staff Advisory Council and representative of the UT System Employee Advisory Council. She received UT Tyler’s 2012-13 Outstanding Student Organization Adviser Award.
