The University of Texas at Tyler Innovation Academy Longview campus will begin its second academic year with increased enrollment and an additional grade year, Dr. Van Patterson, director of the UT Tyler Longview University Center, announced.
The academy, which is located at the UT Tyler LUC, will start on Aug. 5 and focuses on developing, implementing and disseminating new and promising practices in education. This year the charter school will expand its current offerings to include grade seven, which means the academy will now serve grades three through seven. The plan is to add a grade each year through grade 12.
“Since last year enrollment has increased from 60 to120 students,” said Eli Crow, UT Tyler’s Innovation Academy superintendent of schools. “To accommodate this growth we have also added four additional instructors, all of whom are from the city of Longview.”
The new instructors are Cindy Mosley, Melissa Hoskins, Lizzie Baker and Jessica Eubank.
The academy is a wonderful asset for the Longview community, and the students are learning skills that will give them the best opportunities for success in college and later in their chosen career fields, Crow added.
The UT Tyler Innovation Academy’s project-based learning environment emphasizes science, technology, engineering and mathematics elements. Through the connection with The University of Texas at Tyler, students have access to resources and opportunities not readily available in traditional public school settings.
