Morgan Jones of Chandler, a sophomore mass communication major at The University of Texas at Tyler, has been named editor in chief of the Patriot Talon student media outlet, Kevin Dilley, Patriot Talon adviser, announced.
Jones replaces Andy Taylor of Tyler, who graduated in May.
“I am excited to have grown with the Patriot Talon during the past two years,” Jones said. “I hope to continue this growth and use my leadership skills to better our presence on campus, serve our audience and gain statewide recognition from our peers.”
Jones has worked as a writer on the Talon editorial staff since 2011 and was also the pulse editor and co-managing editor. In addition, she led the effort to create Patriot Pulse, a yearly magazine designed to engage UT Tyler students. She also has been recognized by the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association and is a recipient of the Frank W. Buckley Scholarship.
“Morgan is the type of leader who people want to follow,” Dilley said. “She loves storytelling journalism and is committed to the Patriot Talon’s success.”
Jones is president of the UT Tyler National Society of Leadership and Success student chapter as well as a contributing writer for IN Magazine, where she previously interned for nearly three years.
A bi-monthly print publication, the award-winning Patriot Talon may be found online at www.patriottalon.com.
