Art students at The University of Texas at Tyler were recognized for their work during the 2013 UT Tyler Meadows Gallery Juried Student Exhibition Awards Reception, Ray Sikes, gallery coordinator, announced.
The annual student exhibition showcases the best work by UT Tyler art students during the academic year. Students submitted up to three two- or three-dimensional pieces that were then juried by UT Tyler Department of Art and Art History faculty.
Jason Bennett of Cedar Park received Best in Show for his ceramic piece entitled, “Observation 26: As Much As It Is With Blue.”
Two-dimensional award recipients and their art are:
First Place – Erin Ethridge of Tyler, installation, “With Flesh And Without, In Regards To Your Letter”
Second Place – Brandy Covington of Tyler, collage, “Kiddo”
Third Place – Kayla Suverkrubbe of Tyler, painting, “Off To Neverland”
Three-dimensional award recipients and their art are:
First Place – Chelsea Baranski of Canton, mixed media, “Fixated”
Second Place – Ryon York of Mabank, mixed media sculpture, “The Soul”
Third Place – Tonya Shanholtz of Tyler, ceramic collage, “Inactive Security”
Jill Hendrix of Hideaway and Rachel Goodwin of Whitehouse each received Honorable Mention in the two-dimensional art category. Wesley Stolusky of Kaufman received Honorable Mention in the three-dimensional art category.
This year’s exhibition continues through Wednesday, Aug. 14 at the gallery.
The Meadows Gallery is located in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment.
