The next exhibition at The University of Texas at Tyler Meadows Gallery will feature work by graduate student Paula McDermott of Jacksonville, Ray Sikes, gallery coordinator, announced.
“Cupcakes and Couture” will begin Monday, April 15. McDermott will give a talk about her work at noon Tuesday, April 16 at the gallery.
The public exhibition, which is prepared and executed in partial fulfillment of UT Tyler’s master of fine arts degree, will end Friday, April 26.
“This exhibition will display large and small-scale soft sculpture and adornment,” McDermott said. “These pieces can protect, empower and obscure. Because of the size or materials used, the sculptures provide a barrier or personal space for the wearer, keeping others at a safe distance.”
The UT Tyler Meadows Gallery is located in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Art Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment.
The master of fine arts degree program at UT Tyler provides the means for graduate students to develop as contemporary artists in all aspects of the discipline.
Courses of study include extensive critical analysis, research into contemporary art theory, innovative problem solving, aesthetics and an exploration of the artist’s role and interface with contemporary society.
