Celtic Fire will be the next performance at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center executive director, announced.
Sponsored by Louis and Peaches Owen, the family-friendly evening of live music, Irish step-dancing and song will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 5. Media sponsors are KETK, Fox 51, KTBB and KNUE.
Celtic Fire stars Irish tenor Michael Londra, who was named Best Irish Tenor at the 2012 Irish Music Association Awards and is the 2011 Celtic Tenor of the Year. His version of ‘Danny Boy’ has more than six million views on Youtube.
“We have wanted to bring this award-winning Celtic tenor for many years. He was the voice of Riverdance on Broadway,” said Thomae-Morphew.
Celtic Fire, with 100 percent live music, dance and song, is anchored in the customs and ancient musical history of Ireland. It is the perfect Celtic evening that sweeps audiences away to Ireland and its traditions, its land, its pubs, its music and most of all, its heart, she added.
The Celtic dancers take the stage with brilliant flashes of speed and exuberance. These creative and dynamic dancers of traditional Celtic dance leave audiences feeling involved and having more of an insight into what Ireland and its country really are like.
Londra also serves as creative director and producer. He is a driving force in Irish arts worldwide.
As lead voice in Riverdance on Broadway and a recording artist performing worldwide, Londra’s tenor voice has played on the world’s largest stages from Madison Square Garden to Radio City Music Hall and from the Kremlin Palace in Moscow to the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Londra is the creator of Radiocelt.com, the largest online Irish radio station. He has been seen in the role of Jesus in The Passion of the Christ Symphony from the score of the Mel Gibson movie. His recording of The Water Is Wide is featured on the Universal Records recording Arias Ancora with Andrea Bocelli, Il Divo and Pavarotti.
