The University of Texas at Tyler Department of Music will present the UT Tyler Jazz Ensembles in concert on Thursday, Feb. 21, Dr. Michael Thrasher, School of Performing Arts director, announced.
The public concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the UT Tyler University Center Theater.
Dr. John Webb, professor of music and director of jazz studies, will direct the UT Tyler Jazz Patriots, an eight-piece jazz combo, and the 16-piece UT Tyler Jazz Ensemble. The program will also feature vocalist and UT Tyler graduate student Susie Carter of Longview.
“The Jazz Patriots will perform repertoire from Billie Holiday, Cannonball Adderley, Charlie Parker and Horace Silver. The jazz ensemble (big band) will feature three well-known old standards, a tune from the Buddy Rich Library, a blazin’ fast Count Basie-styled tune and even a jazzy version of “John Brown’s Body!,” Webb said. “Bring your friends and family for lots of jazzy fun in the UC theater.”
