The University of Texas at Tyler Meadows Gallery will feature the exhibition “Stoked in Texas” beginning Monday, Feb. 18, Ray Sikes, gallery coordinator, announced.
The exhibition highlights various wood fired ceramic pieces produced by 17 Texas artists. Ceramist Shane Tidmore with the Houston Independent School District and Gary Hatcher, UT Tyler professor and Department of Art and Art History chair, serve as curators. An opening reception and gallery talk for the exhibition will be 6 – 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22 at the gallery.
The exhibition will continue through Thursday, March 7.
The Meadows Gallery is located in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment.
An art teacher at Houston ISD, Tidmore previously served at The Glassell School as a full-time faculty member and director of ceramics. He holds bachelor and master’s degrees in ceramics, painting and geology from the University of North Texas. He also lived in South Korea for one year and in Japan for four years working and studying ceramic art.
A UT Tyler faculty member since 1992, Hatcher holds a bachelor of fine arts in ceramics from UNT and a master of fine arts in sculpture from Texas A&M University – Commerce. He held apprenticeships in England, France and Greece and has participated in more than 300 exhibitions himself. He has curated a number of exhibitions for UT Tyler and the Tyler Museum of Art.
