The University of Texas at Tyler is currently accepting student applications for the next class in the Global Awareness Through Education Program, Dr. Jill Blondin, Center for Global Education director, announced.
GATE is a two-year program designed for incoming UT Tyler freshmen interested in a globally-focused, culturally diverse education. GATE offers internationally-infused core curriculum classes, cultural activities and service opportunities. The program culminates in a five-week study abroad experience the summer after a student’s sophomore year.
Applicants must be accepted to UT Tyler. Submission deadline is Wednesday, April 10. Applications may be found at http://www.uttyler.edu/gate/application.php.
“The GATE students who begin their studies at UT Tyler in the fall of 2013 will be traveling to Italy. It is an amazing opportunity. Students will study everything from the Sistine Chapel to ancient Pompeii to contemporary Sicily,” Blondin said.
Each GATE student also will take 10 core curriculum classes and participate in special cultural activities together.
Students selected for the program will be notified no later than Tuesday, April 30, she added.
GATE is part of the Center for Global Education, founded in 2011, to provide quality international student abroad experiences, encourage cultural diversity in Tyler and East Texas and assist the university’s international faculty and students.
