As a way to meet students’ needs, The University of Texas at Tyler Robert R. Muntz Library has acquired new study furniture, Jeanne Standley, Muntz Library director, announced.

The three study booths, called “study pods,” may be found on the library’s main floor and are ready for use. Officials brought the booths to campus after library user survey comments requested more group study space.

“Our students use the library and its resources in a variety of ways. One of the biggest ways is to study and work either individually or in groups on projects,” Standley said. “During our last user survey, a lot of the comments were related to our group study space and the need for more group study rooms. Since we don’t really have the space for constructing additional rooms, these new study booths are one way we can meet their needs.”

Each study pod features VGA cables for laptop connection, power outlets, a large monitor and cushioned seating for six people. Power buttons control which laptop screen is viewed on the monitor.

The UT Tyler Office of the Provost and Muntz Library provided funding for the pods, which are created by the company Media Scape.
