The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center will present an evening of heartwarming and hilarious storytelling by legendary television actor Larry Hagman, Susan Thomae-Morphew, executive director, announced.
Sponsored by Sherilyn and Patrick D. Willis, this production will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10. Media sponsors are East Texas Radio Group, CBS 19 and Tyler Today.
Tickets are $57, $47, $37 and $27 and can be purchased online at www.cowancenter.org, by phone at 903.566.7424 or at the box office. Box office hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the performance.
“We are so excited to welcome Larry Hagman back to the UT Tyler Cowan Center. He was so well-received during his first visit last spring for our Black Tie & Diamonds ‘Dallas’ Style fundraiser that we couldn’t wait to bring his one-man show. The audience will certainly enjoy this up close and personal glimpse into the life of Larry Hagman,” Thomae-Morphew said.
Hagman tells all through anecdotes about his life and career including such topics as his famous mother, Mary Martin; the discovery of a Jeannie in a bottle and who shot J.R., which was a question asked by 350 million “Dallas” fans worldwide.
This funny and candid self-portrait features a multi-media presentation filled with vintage family slides, rare clips and hysterical outtakes from the television shows.
Hagman concludes the show by answering audience questions.
Born in Fort Worth, Hagman followed his mother’s theatrical footsteps with his first stage experience at the Margo Jones Theatre-in-the-Round in Dallas. He moved to England as a member of the cast of his mother’s big stage hit, “South Pacific,” and stayed for five years.
In England, he joined the Air Force where he produced and directed several shows for members of the service. It was during his service that he married his wife of 58 years, Maj, a Swedish designer.
Hagman returned to New York for a series of Broadway and off-Broadway plays. After moving to Hollywood, he found success as the star of the hit television series “I Dream of Jeannie.” In 1977 he joined the cast of “Dallas” and created the character that would solidify his position in television history.
