The University of Texas at Tyler Meadows Gallery will feature the exhibition “East Meets West” beginning Tuesday, Oct. 15, Ray Sikes, Meadows Gallery coordinator, announced.
The exhibition, which showcases the works of artists Suguru Hiraide and Joe Barrington, will run through Friday, Nov. 9.
The Meadows Gallery is located in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment.
A reception with gallery talks will be 6 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 at the gallery.
Born in Nagano Prefecture, Japan, Hiraide came to the U.S. to attend college in 1992. He holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in sculpture and graphic design from West Virginia University and a master of fine arts degree in sculpture from California State University – Fullerton. He has been teaching sculpture and metals at Midwestern State University since 2003.
A native Texan, Barrington holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in sculpture from Midwestern State University. He is a full-time sculptor who works in converted car dealerships, Red Star Studio in Throckmorton and Red Star Studio 2 in Albany.
