Complexions, the award-winning contemporary ballet company, will be the next performance at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, executive director, announced.

Sponsored by AT&T, Complexions will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27. Media sponsors are KETK, Fox 51, KTBB and KNUE.

Tickets are $57, $52, $47, $42, $37 and $27 and can be purchased online at www.cowancenter.org, by phone at 903.566.7424 or at the box office. Box office hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour prior to the performance.

“Complexions Contemporary Ballet has been described as sculpture in motion, and we’re so excited to present them. This is such a diverse program that the evening will offer something for everyone. You will enjoy unforgettable, powerful dance,” Thomae-Morphew said.

Choreographed by Dwight Rhoden, the program features artistic dances set to music by U2, Johann Sebastian Bach, Nina Simone and various jazz artists.

Founded in 1994 by Rhoden and Desmond Richardson, Complexions’ groundbreaking mix of methods, styles and cultures has created an entirely new and exciting vision of human movement for the past 18 years.

Rhoden and Richardson serve as guest choreographers for the popular Fox television show “So You Think You Can Dance.” They have been with the show for about six seasons.

Rhoden has been praised for his prolific body of work, visionary style and boundary-breaking sensibility. He has created more than 80 ballets for Complexions, as well as numerous other companies including Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theater of Harlem, Joffrey Ballet, Ballet Gamonet and New York City Ballet/Diamond Project.

Complexions has received numerous awards, including the New York Times “Critics Choice” Award, and has appeared throughout the United States including the New York’s Lincoln Center and Brooklyn Academy of Music, New Orleans’ Mahalia Jackson Performance Arts Center, Los Angeles’ Music Center and Dallas’ Winspear Opera House.

One of the 15 campuses of the UT System, UT Tyler offers excellence in teaching, research, artistic performance and community service. More than 80 undergraduate and graduate degrees are available at UT Tyler, which has an enrollment of almost 7,000 high-ability students at its campuses in Tyler, Longview and Palestine.
