UT Tyler Cowan Center Announces 2012-13 Season Featuring Lyle Lovett, Dreamgirls, Blue Man Group and Karen Hughes

The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center will open its 16th season with Lyle Lovett and His Large Band, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center executive director, announced.

The season, titled “Wrap Yourself in the Arts,” features a wide variety of performances from across the globe, and it concludes with the return of the last season’s megahit Blue Man Group.

New season subscriptions are on sale now at the UT Tyler Cowan Center box office, by calling 903.566.7424 or online at www.cowancenter.org. Box office hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The deadline to purchase season subscriptions is Friday, Aug. 5, 2012.

“With 15 seasons under our belt, the UT Tyler Cowan Center is established with a quality reputation for bringing first-class talent, innovative experiences, celebrated speakers and diverse offerings to keep you connected to arts and culture,” Thomae-Morphew said.

The Cowan Center offers four subscription series. Patrons may choose from the Performing Arts Series, Broadway Series, Braithwaite Intimate Gatherings Series and the Distinguished Lecture Series, she added.

“Buying season tickets is the only way to assure patrons of getting the best seats at the lowest price. In addition, our subscribers become part of our Cowan Center family with their loyal attendance. We hope everyone will consider subscribing to one, two or all of our series,” said Thomae-Morphew.

Performing Arts Series:

  • An Evening with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin – Sept. 14, 2012
  • Complexions Contemporary Ballet – Sept. 27, 2012
  • Shaolin Warriors: Voices of the Masters – Oct. 29, 2012
  • Celtic Fire – March 5, 2013

Performing Arts Series season package prices range from $107-$229 for four shows. Patrons who purchase season tickets to the Performing Arts Series may add Lyle Lovett and His Large Band on Sept. 6, 2012 to their season ticket order and are assured of first seating for this Special Event.

BroadwaySeries:

  • West Side Story – Jan. 22, 2013
  • Monty Python’s Spamalot – March 21, 2013
  • Dreamgirls – March 26, 2013

Broadway Series package prices range from $101-$182 for three shows. Patrons who purchase season tickets to the Broadway Series may add Shrek The Musical on Nov. 15, 2012 to their season ticket order and are assured of first seating for this Special Event.

Braithwaite Intimate Gatherings Series season package prices range from $87-$159 for three shows. Patrons who purchase season tickets to the Braithwaite Intimate Gatherings Series may add Blue Man Group on May 3 - 4, 2013 to their season ticket order and are assured of first seating for this Special Event.

Distinguished Lecture Series:

  • Ambassador Karen Hughes – Nov. 1, 2012
  • Dr. John Carlos – Feb. 19, 2013

The Distinguished Lecture Series season package prices range from $49-$58 for two lectures.

Arts in Education Series:

  • Complexions Contemporary Ballet – Sept. 27, 2012
