Andy Taylor of Tyler, a junior journalism major at The University of Texas at Tyler, has been named editor in chief of the Patriot Talon student newspaper, Kevin Dilley, Patriot Talon adviser, announced.
Student Media Advisory Board members recently appointed Taylor who will replace graduating senior Lea Rittenhouse of Tyler.
“I am thankful for the opportunity to lead the Patriot Talon, a publication to which I attribute personal growth as a writer and leader,” Taylor said. “I am confident our staff will continue to produce quality journalism and serve as the voice of university students.”
Serving as Talon managing editor this academic year, Taylor has worked for the newspaper since August 2010 as a reporter, writer, editor and photographer. He also previously served as a Tyler Morning Telegraph intern, providing content for that paper’s broadcast partner, KYTX CBS-19. The Texas Intercollegiate Press Association has also recognized his work.
“Andy is a calm, level-headed journalist who has the fire in the belly for what we do,” Dilley said. “Not only is he a strong reporter and writer, but also a team builder, which is an important attribute in a leader.”
A bi-monthly publication, the award-winning Patriot Talon may be found online at www.patriottalon.com.
