Luke Goebel, visiting assistant professor of English at The University of Texas at Tyler, was given the 2012 Joan Scott Memorial Fiction Award, Dr. Hui Wu, Department of Literature and Languages chair, announced.
The award recognizes outstanding writers nationwide who are chosen from those published in the independent literary journal, UNSAID.
Goebel holds a M.F.A. from the University of Massachusetts – Amherst and a bachelor of arts in English from the University of San Francisco.
He currently serves as co-editor of The New York Tyrant and TYRANT BOOKS and was a 2011 Million Writers Award nominee.
UNSAID is known for its large format printing and having published some of the most recognized names in fiction of past decades, including Barry Hannah, Padgett Powell, Noy Holland and Dawn Raffel, among others.
The UT Tyler Department of Literature and Languages offers bachelor and master degrees in English and Spanish as well as minors in philosophy, Asian studies, Spanish and classical studies. Its foreign language programs include Chinese, Japanese, French, Latin and Spanish.
