Larry Hagman and Linda Gray of the 1980s primetime soap opera “Dallas” will be featured celebrities at the 2012 Cowan Arts and Awards Black Tie & Diamonds: “Dallas” Style, Susan Thomae-Morphew, executive director of The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, announced.

Known around the world as J.R. and Sue Ellen Ewing, Hagman and Gray will appear at a dinner benefiting the UT Tyler Cowan Center Performance Excellence Endowment on Saturday, March 24. This event will help build the future of Tyler’s premiere performing arts center.

The actors will enhance the inaugural Cowan Arts and Awards endowment event by walking the red carpet with the guests and mingling throughout the evening, she added.

“The iconic cast members known world-wide will bring ‘Dallas’ flavor to this elegant evening. A rare opportunity for Tyler, black tie and diamonds says it all,” said Thomae-Morphew.

Hagman and Gray were two of the leading stars of the hit television series “Dallas” that ran 1978 – 1991 and kept millions of viewers glued to their sets each week. Famous for its cliffhangers, the series is best remembered for the ‘Who Shot J.R.?’ mystery.

The series showcased the Ewings, a wealthy Texas oil and cattle family. J.R., the scheming oil baron, and his brother, Bobby, were always at odds with each other regarding the family business.

This year, the series will be revived and will focus on the constant struggle between the sons of J.R. and Bobby. Hagman and Gray will reprise their roles on this new series.

There is limited seating, which is still available, and invitations will go out this week.
