Welcome to UT Tyler Esports
UT Tyler advocates for gaming that promotes a healthy balance of time management and socialisation. Meet with other students at the Lab in it's open recreational hours between 1 PM and 4:45 PM Monday - Friday.
In Fall 2020, three faculty members at UT Tyler received a grant to conduct research on Esports. Esports is short for electronic sports and transforms online video gaming into a spectator sport. After the launch of the research, the program grew exponentially. In the spring of 2023, the program is now supported by the Department of Student Engagement, Recreational Sports, and the Soules College of Business to accommodate the rapid growth of the program and to continue the success that the faculty started. The UT Tyler Esports program has previously competed with varsity level teams for Valorant, Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, League of Legends, Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Counter Strike 2.
Varsity Teams only open at the beginning weeks of every semester. If you missed the window, send an email to esports@uttyler.edu or ask the Lab Attendant at the Esports Lab Front Desk for more info.
Esports Leadership can range from Competitive Game Analysis to Community Engagement.
The Esports Lab is located in the Soules College of Business Building. It's recognized by a sign on the Ceiling saying "UT Tyler Esports" and a window looking into a range of Gaming PC's. During it's open hours, a person at the front desk can help you with all your questions.
Yes, we have set hours for when the Esports Lab is open and available for general student use.
The Program is always open to supporting new games and teams. New games are added primarily based on student popularity, official developer support in the collegiate scene, department capacity, and at the discretion of UT Tyler Esports.
