UT Tyler - Public Information

Under the Texas Public Information Act (the Act), each person is entitled to complete information about the affairs of government and the official acts of public officials and employees, unless otherwise expressly provided by law. For more information about the Texas Public Information Act or open records requests, please refer to the attorney general's 2024 Public Information Handbook and/or The University of Texas System's website on open records.

A public information request must be in writing and needs to be for information already in existence. A governmental body is not required to answer questions, perform legal research, or create new information in response to a public information request.

Carl Baranowski, Chief Legal Officer, is the Public Information Officer for UT Tyler--both main campus and the UT Tyler Health Science Center.

What Your Request Should Include

Requests for records under the Public Information Act must be in writing. Including the following information in your request will help ensure that you receive the information you want:

  • Your name and mailing address (so we can send you a response).
  • Your phone number and/or email address (so we can contact you if we have questions about how to respond to your request).
  • A list or description of the specific information you are interested in, including time periods (try to be as specific as possible about the information you are seeking).

Costs & Billing

Charges for copies of public information are set by the Office of the Attorney General.
