We’re an engaged, supportive community invested in your personal and professional success — no matter if you attend courses in person or on campus. Understand what to expect as an online student at UT Tyler, from the format of asynchronous courses to getting assistance.

What to Expect

You’ll communicate with your instructors and classmates through discussion boards, emails, video chats and other online tools. A course typically requires at least 10 hours of preparation and study time each week. Canvas, our online platform, is where you’ll access coursework and assignments. All you need is a high-speed internet connection.

State Authorization

State authorization makes it possible for students outside of Texas to participate in UT Tyler’s online courses. UT Tyler complies with each state's requirements, which differ from state to state.

Office of Digital Learning

The Office of Digital Learning provides institutional level support for Canvas, Zoom, Academic Integrity and other online learning platforms. As a student, you’ll have access to a Canvas 101 course allowing you to test the technical operation and functional workflow of the tools you will use in your online courses. Best of all, we offer 24/7/365 Canvas support for all students for your entire degree program. You can voice call or text chat with Canvas specialists literally any time of the day or night, so that you’re never left without support. To access the 24/7/365 support options, just choose the question mark icon at the bottom of the blue global menu that is always visible inside Canvas.
