Meet a Current Graduate Student

Industrial Management

John HowardStudent Name:  John Everett Howard

Program: Masters of Science Industrial MGMT with concurrent MBA

Hometown: Tyler, TX

Undergraduate Institution: UT Tyler

Graduation Year: 2011

Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

Location, Small class size, I can walk up and talk to the professors and build working professional relationship with my instructors.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

I want to be as educated as possible. I want to know how all of the pieces fit together in manufacturing, business and life. Knowledge is power, and I want both. Degrees are like keys to doors; you need them to unlock the doors. Don’t forget that you also need someone to introduce you to everyone inside the room after the door has been opened.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

Veteran Friendly (so far) Teachers will listen and debate topics with the lowest amount of bias that I have dealt with in the academic world. In general I have found the educated elite to have very liberal agendas, however in both my undergrad and graduate degree, I have found the teachers at UT to be more “center of the road”. They have allowed constructive discussions that allow both sides left and right to have a voice. I have an aggressive personality, and love to interact with my teachers in class. The teachers for the most part have been professional and insightful, and it’s fun for me to go to class. I enjoy the big boy environment.
