Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

I initially chose to attend UT Tyler for my master's degree for the convenience and familiarity of the campus but I quickly realized when I began the benefits of the low student-to-teacher ratio. There are about 15 students in each reading seminar and it's really nice to be able to communicate my own ideas and discuss the ideas of others and the instructor on a one-on-one basis. It's helpful to have instructors that want to listen to everyone's opinion instead of just dictating who is right or wrong. My instructors are willing to meet early, stay late, and answer any questions myself or others may have. Being a teacher myself, this is an invaluable asset when trying to balance the load of family, work, and school.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

My career goal is to teach History at the junior college level. My previous experience in the teaching field combined with the graduate program at UT Tyler is providing me with the foundation I need to further my career by offering unwavering support from instructors in a collaborative, low-pressure environment.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

What I like most about the graduate program at UT Tyler is that my instructors and fellow students ALWAYS push me to be the best version of myself. Just when I think I won't be able to "finish that book," or "write that paper," I think about or talk to my instructors and classmates and they motivate me to complete everything to the best of my abilities. They always offer encouragement and support. I love learning new things and pushing myself to be the best. I am not the best at everything I do, but I AM always improving. That's what UT Tyler does for me.
