Why did you choose to attend UT Tyler?

The MFA program here is both challenging and supportive. I was excited about what the professors here were doing with their own art, and could also tell that the faculty here is committed to providing students with a great experience and to helping each student be successful. The graduate studio space and other facilities are impressive. The program is studio-focused and self-directed. I can also work as a teaching assistant and teach undergraduate classes, which will broaden my artistic perspective and give me practical experience.

What are your career goals and how does your graduate program support them?

My goal is to be an active and recognized studio artist. The graduate program supports these goals by enabling me to work in a community with other artists and learn from established professionals. The program will also help me make more professional connections, broaden my artistic perspective, and give me practice in ways to talk about/present my artwork. In addition to having the time and space needed to work, I can also increase my knowledge and experience in other media/skills by attending undergraduate classes and/or working one-on-one with professors.

What do you like most about UT Tyler?

The great facilities, positive atmosphere, and professors' commitment.
