East Texas Center for School Based Research & Instruction

College of Education and Psychology

Welcome to the East Texas Center for School Based Research & Instruction. It was George Bernard Shaw who said, “You see things; and you say why? But I dream things that never were; and I say why not?”

The Center consists of a partnership between University of Texas at Tyler’s College of Education and Psychology and member East Texas school districts.

The vision of the East Texas Center for School Based Research & Instruction is to establish an organized research and instruction unit…aimed at supporting center partners in designing, implementing, and evaluating professional learning opportunities and initiatives.

The goals of the Center are designed to operationalize vision and include:

  1. Engaging partners in identifying critical education challenges, issues, and/or questions.
  2. Supporting partners in designing, implementing, and evaluating research-based integrated strategies for addressing identified issues, questions, and challenges.
  3. Leveraging resources (research, infrastructure, college students) at UT Tyler to help meet critical educational needs in area schools and communities.
  4. Collaborating with partners in monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness.

Through this collaboration we are committed to providing the highest quality of education to the 40,000 students attending our public schools in Smith County. As the Roman philosopher Cicero stated, “What greater gift can we offer the republic than to teach and instruct our youth.”
