Biography

Dr. Souliman, P.E. is the Ronald D. Brazzel Endowed Professor of Civil Engineering and Chair of the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering and Management at the University of Texas at Tyler. He earned both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering with a focus on Pavement Engineering from Arizona State University. Dr. Souliman’s research focuses on resilient pavement materials, fatigue endurance limits, advanced pavement laboratory characterization, field performance evaluation, maintenance and rehabilitation techniques, pavement management systems, cement-treated bases, statistical analyses, and modeling and computer applications in civil engineering. During his time at UT Tyler, he has played a pivotal role in advancing research initiatives at both state and national levels, contributing to significant projects across various sectors and addressing challenges in pavement performance, materials engineering, and infrastructure sustainability. Through his research collaborations, Dr. Souliman continues to shape the future of civil engineering, particularly in the areas of resilient infrastructure and innovative construction techniques. With over 120 technical publications, conference papers, and reports in the field of pavement and aggregate testing and characterization, he has made substantial contributions to his discipline. He is a recipient of the prestigious International Road Federation Fellowship (2009) and has been recognized for his outstanding scholarship and creativity, earning the 2017 Crystal Talon Award and the 2018 Crystal Quill Awards, which honors distinguished faculty at UT Tyler, and the 2021 UT Tyler President’s Scholarly Achievement Award for his continued excellence in research.
