Curriculum

The master’s in engineering leadership is a 30-credit-hour course of study you can complete in two years. Build on your background with additional skills and competencies in three areas:

  • Business Management: See the big picture as you learn the fundamentals of project management and team leadership, including operations, accounting, human resources and marketing. Prepare to plan and oversee all stages of a project and help move operations forward.
  • Leadership: Delve into organizational behavior and change theories, and hone key leadership competencies in conflict resolution, decision-making, vision casting and ethics.
  • Engineering: Grow your technical knowledge to enhance your leadership in engineering settings. Acquire an advanced understanding of process control, risk management, systems engineering, optimization and statistical modeling.

Bring all three areas together in a final capstone project, and apply what you’ve learned to solve a real-world business challenge.

How to Apply

To be considered for admission, please submit or provide proof of:

  • A completed online application.
  • Official transcripts for all prior undergraduate- or graduate-level work, submitted to the Office of Graduate Admissions.
  • Satisfactory grade point average on the student’s last four semesters of academic study and last 60 semester credit hours of upper division undergraduate or graduate courses.
  • A bachelor’s degree in an engineering or construction management program accredited by the ABET. Students who have not earned such a degree will be required to complete prerequisite coursework before starting the MSEL program as determined by the MSEL Graduate Coordinator or Program Chair.
  • A demonstrated proficiency in the use of the English language, both spoken and written.

When you’re a working professional, fitting your coursework within your busy schedule can be a challenge. That’s why, in addition to our main campus in Tyler, we also offer the master’s in engineering leadership through our Houston Engineering Center for those who work in or near the city.
