Pre-Health Conference for High School Students

The Pre-Health Conference affords a unique opportunity for high school students to explore and learn about careers in a multitude of health professions and what they can do now as a high school student. Attendees will be able to meet and speak with various health professionals, health professions advisors, graduate health students and other students with similar interests as they explore a variety of health professions, including medicine, public health, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine, therapy, first responders, and more. High Schools are invited to bring their students with healthcare interests as they take steps towards becoming the next generation of healthcare leaders. Students must attend with their school and school representatives. Teachers and students must be pre-registered with their school as there will be no onsite registration. Medical Scholars Academy Camp for High School Students

The Summer Medical Scholars Academy offers high school students (completed grades 9-11) the opportunity to participate in a residential five-day summer camp devoted to educating participants about the various career opportunities in healthcare and public service. During campus visits, students are encouraged to consider the wide array of options that exist in medical and health-related careers while learning what they need to do to start preparing for a bright future. Activities include hospital tours, simulation labs, shadowing opportunities, fields trips and more. The cost of the camp for each student is $400. The fee will be applied towards the total expense of the camp, which includes all meals, lodging, transportation, and activities. Scholarships are available to students demonstrating financial need. A selection committee will review applications, and students will be notified of acceptance by early March. Participants must be 16 years old by the first day of camp. Summer Research and Clinical Externship for College Students

Entering college freshman (at least 18 years of age), sophomores and juniors are given the opportunity to spend two weeks (M-F 8:30 am-5:00 pm) during the summer at the UT Tyler School of Medicine learning about biomedical research, clinical and healthcare professions. The primary goal of this program is to provide a stimulating firsthand experience in scientific research as well as provide insights into different specialties of medicine by shadowing doctors, nurses, and medical professionals. In this program, participants can interact with top notch scientists, meet with expert physicians, and work alongside other research, clinical and healthcare professionals. This comprehensive program gives the opportunity to closely observe professionals involved in the bench - to- bedside of medicine. The program integrates classroom knowledge in biology, chemistry, and physics with their practical implications.  Activities include: clinical rotations in medical specialties (internal medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, gastroenterology, family medicine, radiology, and more), hands-on research work, lectures and conferences, mentoring, research presentation at the end of the program and much more! The cost for each student is $250. Scholarships are available to students demonstrating financial need.
